Dick was born in Auburn, IN, the oldest child of Wilbur and Cleo Johnson. He was enrolled at Tri-State College (now Trine University) and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Dick graduated in 1967 with a bachelors in Business Administration.
After being drafted, Dick trained as a combat medic at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Dick then later served in Berlin, Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Expert (Rifle) Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin).
For 31 years, Dick worked in the graphite business in manufacturing and sales at Union Carbide Corporation (Dow Chemical Company). He worked at several locations including: Cleveland, Atlanta, Fostoria, OH, Kansas City, MO, and Auburn, IN.
On August 17, 1968, he married Sharron Peachey in Kendallville, IN. They had two sons, Brandon and Trenton.
Upon retirement, Dick and Sharron moved to Williamsburg, VA. Dick was an active member of the community including: volunteering at the Kingsmill LPGA Championship, member of the Fords Colony Auto Enthusiasts (awarded the Big Wheel Award 2018), and St. Bede Catholic Church.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Cleo; sister, Melanie Rosetti; and daughter-in-law, Yvette Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Sharron; sons, Brandon Johnson (Cary) of Marion, OH, and Trenton Johnson (Lanée) of Portsmouth, NH; grandchildren, Kyrie, Tate, and Tahlia; and brother Steve Johnson (Ruth Ann) of Edgerton, OH.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 500 E. 7th Street, Auburn, IN. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Auburn.
