Peggy Ann Schaefer, 82, of Auburn, passed away on Thursday, September 28,2023 at Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville. She fought a long hard battle against dementia.
She was born on December 26,1940 in Kokomo, Indiana to Eugene K. and LaVonne (Clayton) Johnson.
When Peggy was very young the Johnson family moved to Fort Wayne for job opportunities.
Peggy spent most of her life in the Fort Wayne and Auburn areas.
Peggy graduated from North Side High School, Fort Wayne in 1959. She met her future husband,
David Lee Schaefer, when she was a senior and he had just graduated from North Side in 1958.
Peggy and Dave dated, became engaged, and then married on September 15, 1962. Peggy and Dave
had been married for 61 years when Peggy passed.
After High School Peggy worked at ITT Federal for several years and then when married to Dave, she worked at Dana Corp several more years doing office work and running blueprints for their engineering departments. As the family grew Peggy became a full-time housewife, however, after the children mostly finished high school, Peggy returned to the work force and worked for about ten years at Magnavox.
She is survived by her husband, David L. Schaefer of Auburn; children, Mark and (Juana) Schaefer of Alpharetta, GA, Kirk Schaefer of Auburn, and Jodi Schaefer of Butler; grandchildren, Ava Schaefer of Auburn, Alex Schaefer of Auburn, Dakota (Megan) McHale of Edgerton, OH, and Dalton Casper of Auburn; great granddaughter Parker Schaefer of Auburn; brother, Robert (Jacque) Johnson of Churubusco; sister, Bonnie (Jim) Miller of Fort Wayne; brother in-law, Greg (Linda) Schaefer of Fort Wayne; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and LaVonne Johnson; In-laws, Herbert (Margaret) Schaefer, brother in-laws, Steven Schaefer, Larry Schaefer;
Infant Daughter, Diane Schaefer; Infant Granddaughter, Madison Husted.
Honoring Peggy’s request there will be no viewing. She wishes to be cremated.
A Private family service will be held at Sedan Cemetery.
In lieu of sending flowers, donations would be appreciated to either Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville and/or Parkview Hospice.
