Mike V. Watson of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family.
A dedicated public servant, Mike devoted much of his life to serving Auburn, DeKalb County, and Northeast Indiana. His leadership and commitment to the community were evident in his years of service, including Auburn City Councilman (2013-2021), DeKalb County Commissioner (2021-2024), DeKalb County Drainage Board, DeKalb County Visitors Bureau, Auburn Plan Commission and DeKalb County Plan Commission (served on both at separate times), DeKalb Economic Development Partnership, President of the DeKalb Central Foundation, Board Member of the Indiana County Commissioners Association, Northeast Indiana Strategic Development Commission, Mayors and Commissioners Caucus of Northeast Indiana (President), Maumee River Basin Commission, Poka-Bache Connector Trail Task Force and Auburn Waterloo Trails.
In recognition of his dedication, Mike was honored as the 2024 Distinguished County Commissioner of the Year by the Indiana County Commissioners Association.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marion Watson; his sons, Jeremy Watson and Joshua Watson; stepdaughters, Donna Devore and Laura Flueckiger; grandchildren, Ben, Trinity, Madilynn, Keller, Candon, Oliver, and Harper; and sisters, Renee Jones and Rita Zortman.
A Celebration of Life to honor Mike will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, with a reception from 1-4 p.m., and a blessing service by Rev. Bob Craig at 2 p.m., at Kruse Plaza, 5634 Opportunity Blvd, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike’s honor may be made to DeKalb Trails or the DeKalb Central Foundation.
Mike’s passion for service and love for his community will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
