Kim A. Payton, 64, of Garrett, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Kim was born January 19, 1960 in Auburn, a son of the late George and Arminda Payton. Kim was a 1978 graduate of Garrett High School where he was a distinct athlete. He was the owner and operator of Payton’s Mowing. He loved to help people and one way that he did was volunteering at Serinity House in Auburn. Kim always told his family members that he will “leave the light on in heaven for them to find him easily”. He is survived by his wife, Christina Payton of Garrett; children, Shawn (Mikayla Deisler) Payton of Auburn, Brandy (Shannon) Chiddister of Florida, Brittany Garrett of Angola, Brooke (Joseph Newsom) of Wolcottville, and Blake (Karissa Logston) Tarlton of Garrett; grandchildren, Chloe Payton, Ethan Payton, Axel Payton, Canaan Short, Grace Jetmore, Koltyn Chiddister, Kinlee Chiddister, Chloe (Jake Everson) Miller, Collin Parsell, Carter Parsell and Kobe Tarlton; great grandson, Oaklee Everson; best buddy, Seth Clements; sister, Jama Campbell of Garrett; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Christoper “Lum” and Dorothy McPherson of Auburn; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Darrel Brandenburg of Auburn, Tammy and James Kessler of Garrett, and Debbie and Rich Hall of Auburn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Christopher E. “Little Lum” and Leta McPherson of Auburn, and Zack and Abbie McPherson of Garrett brother-in-law, William Helmick; sister-in-law, Jane Payton. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Arminda Payton; brother, George Payton; sister, Marilyn Helmick; mother-in-law, Beatrice McPherson; brother-in-law, Russell Campbell; nephews, Jeff Caywood and Darrel “DJ” Brandenburg. Visitation for Kim will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home for funeral expenses. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
