James Hatfield Obituary

James W. Hatfield, 82, of Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Jim was born on February 24, 1942, in Muskegon, Michigan. He attended Muskegon Business College and Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting.

Throughout his career, Jim held various leadership roles, including working at Jacobs Engineering Group in Pasadena, California, serving as president of Auburn Packaging Corporation from 1983-1990, and working at Simkins Industries in New Haven, Connecticut, and Crown Paper Box in Indianapolis.

Jim was actively involved in several organizations, serving as Past Director of Meetings for the National Association of Accountants, on the Board of Directors for the DeKalb County Y.M.C.A., and on the Board of Directors for the William S. Hart Foundation in Newhall, California. He had a deep love for the arts and animals and had served as a former director of the DeKalb Humane Society.

Jim is survived by his wife, Toni Hatfield of Auburn; his sons and their wives, Scott and Paula Hatfield of Rangley, Maine, Jeff and Lois Hatfield of Hope, Indiana, and Jim and LeAnn Hatfield of Goshen, Indiana; his stepson, Blake Baughman of Auburn; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bonnie Hatfield of Houston, Texas. He was also a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Hatfield.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services, 502 N. Main Street, Auburn.

Memorial donations may be made to the DeKalb Humane Society.
