Elizabeth Ann Fuchs Mumford, 89, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Elizabeth (Liz) was born to James and Harriet Fuchs in Lakeville, Indiana. She was one of eight children.
She grew up in Lakeville and graduated in 1952, from Lakeville High School. Through a friend, she met Harry Walters, of Mishawaka, Indiana. He in turn introduced her to Don Mumford, also of Mishawaka. They were able to date and attend her senior prom before he was drafted into the Korean War. She prayed and kept the faith that he would return safely, and when he did, they married on Feb. 26, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Mishawaka.
Liz worked at Associates (Bank & Trust) in South Bend, Indiana. That is where she met her best friend, Fran Rinehart.
She was blessed with a son in 1957, Robert (Bob), and in 1960, a daughter (Donna).
During her time in Mishawaka, she developed an interest in ceramics. When she and her family moved to St. Charles, Illinois, Liz taught ceramic classes in her home, as well as working at St. Charles National Bank. In 1979, she moved to Auburn, and continued to teach ceramics. Her hobby, along with Don’s woodworking skills, led them to have their own craft business. They were active in the local craft shows.
She is survived by her husband, Don. Her greatest wish was to be married to him for 70 years. She was very sorry that her health did not grant her that wish. Also surviving is her son, Robert (Bob) Mumford, of Auburn. Her wish for him was to find someone to share his life with and it was granted with Shirlene. Bob blessed Liz with a granddaughter, Shelby (Mumford) Ramirez, of Fort Wayne. Liz was able to attend Shelby and Israel’s wedding and that brought her great joy. Her daughter, Donna (Ken) Hinrichsen, of Auburn, blessed her with two grandsons, Allen (Janette) Hinrichsen, of Millersburg. They brought her great joy as they shared their love of God and family with her. Allen and Janette blessed her even more by giving her a great-grandchild, Gabriel. She was truly sorry that her health did not give her the opportunity to meet the newest great-grandchild. She will be the angel that will keep watch over them as their family grows. Her grandson, Nathan (Nate) Hinrichsen, of Tennessee, was a source of hope and perseverance. Liz admired his artistic talents and boundless sense of energy. Also surviving are three brothers, Mike (Jane) Fuchs, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Richard (Dick) Fuchs, of South Bend and Tom (Kathy) Fox, of Walkerton; sister-in-law, Arlene Mroczek, of Mishawaka; niece, Susan (Mumford) Caldwell, of West Virginia, and other nieces and nephews on the Fuchs and Mumford sides of the family.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Loretta and Susie; sisters/brothers in-law, Betty and Harry, Edith and Bob, Shirley and Dick, Nort and Joanne, Roy and Wanda, and Spark and Maxine.
Liz was a member of First United Methodist Church of Auburn; she assisted with the rummage sales and gave graciously to support the Wednesday Night meal program.
Liz was the co-chair of the Ways & Means Committee at Heimach Senior Center. She assisted with rummage sales, craft shows, luncheons and gave gracious donations to the center to help them build the Dart program garage.
God blessed her with 89 years to love others and to help others. She was kind, supportive and generous. Liz will be remembered!
