Dawn Brendel Obituary

Dawn M. Brendel, 64, of Garrett, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born on May 29, 1961, in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Merle and Ellen Gabbard. Dawn was a 1979 graduate of Connersville High School. She dedicated over 30 years of service to General Telephone and later Verizon.

Dawn was a devoted member of Cultivate Church in Laotto and found great joy in attending services. She loved cooking and baking, often watching the cooking channel for inspiration. An avid traveler, Dawn enjoyed taking road trips and exploring new places. She also had a deep appreciation for both indoor and outdoor plants.

Above all, Dawn cherished her family. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her son, Baron (Erin March) Brendel of Lafayette; her daughter, Leanne (Mark) Middleton of Auburn; her companion, Danny Thornsberry of Garrett; her grandchildren, Robbie Brendel, Evie Brendel, Lil Middleton, and Griffin Middleton; and Erin’s children, Alex March and Ryan March. She is also survived by her sisters, Jean (Tony) Varner of Connersville, and Denise (Brian) Mason of Oklahoma.

Dawn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Brendel; her parents; her brother, Baron “Bear” Davis; and her sister, Denoda “Dodi” Gabbard.
