David Neal Obituary

David M. Neal, 75, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Born on February 24, 1949, in Kendallville, Indiana, David was a 1967 graduate of East Noble High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Manchester University. His passion for education led him to a dedicated 37-year career at Garrett Keyser Butler Schools, where he taught mathematics and computer administration, shaping the minds of countless students. As head of the teacher’s union, he was a steadfast advocate for his colleagues and the broader educational community.

David was a man of many talents and interests. A Past Master of Avilla Masonic Lodge 460 F. & A.M., he was deeply involved in the Masonic community, embodying the values of brotherhood and service. An avid fisherman, David found peace and joy in the quiet moments by the water. He also loved to travel, explore new places, and spend time tending to his yard. Generous with his time and knowledge, David often tutored children for free, helping them succeed academically. He cherished the time spent coaching his sons, Brian and Brad, in little league baseball, passing on his love of the game and the importance of teamwork.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Neal of Auburn; his sons and their wives, Brian and Amy Neal of Auburn, and Brad and Lindsay Neal of Fort Wayne; his adored grandchildren, Beckett, Elliott, Sylvia, Olivia, Charlie, and Wesley; his brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Suzi Neal of Sequim, Washington; and his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Brumbaugh of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Evelyn Neal, and his brother, Reg Neal.
