David V. Kandel age 66, passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord, after a courageous health struggle on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home, Butler. David was born on December 30, 1958 in Columbia City to George V. Kandel and Gwyneth Manges. He was a Graduate of Eastside High School Class of 1977 and Heidelberg College Class of 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. David played college basketball and lettered all four years. He became an Insurance agent, worked with his dad at Kandel Insurance in Butler and owned Kandel Insurance in Kendallville. David also enjoyed working with youth by umpiring for the Butler Youth League and coaching Eastside Jr. High basketball. David belonged to Forest Lodge #239 F. & A, M. where he enjoyed the brotherhood and activities. He was a former member of the Butler United Methodist Church and was currently attending Norris Chapel Global Methodist Church. David was a faithful Christian man. He loved watching the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. Survivors include his mother Gwyneth Kandel of Butler, Brother Gary (Darlene) Kandel of Kendallville,Sister Cheryl Rogers of West Lafayette, and four nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his father George Kandel on February 11, 2009. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20th from 2-5 at Norris Chapel Church 4793 CR 40A Auburn, with a Masonic Service at 4:30 and one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Funeral services for David Kandel will be on Friday, February 21st at 1:00 PM at Norris Chapel Church with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Preferred Memorials are to Norris Chapel Global Methodist Church or the Eastside Foundation.
