Daniel George Lillegard, 62, of Avilla, IN, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was a 1979 graduate of Benton Harbor High School but most of his friends and classmates will remember him from his Freshman through Junior years at Michigan Lutheran High School in St. Joseph, MI. Soon after graduating high school, he joined the Marines and proudly served his country.
Dan (Dancer, as his Avenger brothers knew him) was a member of the Avenger Motorcycle Club for 38 years.
Dan (Dancer) lived his life on his own terms. He had a huge, loving, kind heart and would go to the ends of the earth to protect and defend his loved ones.
In more recent years, he became an avid gardener and his green thumb produced delicious vegetables (which he then used to make salsa that we all loved) and also grew beautiful flowers for all to enjoy.
He is survived by his partner of 23 years, Tara Rice of Avilla, IN; his son Daniel M. (Amanda) Lillegard of Avilla, IN, his stepson, Dylan (Kayla) Rice of Fort Wayne, IN; his sisters Susan (Roger) Knafel of Bradenton, Florida, Christine (Kerry) Schaller of Three Rivers, MI, and Kathryn (John) Tyson of Grand Rapids, MI. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews (and their significant others) as well!
He is also survived by two aunts and one uncle and many, many first and second cousins that will also miss him dearly, especially at the annual Kish/Gerencser family reunion and Lillegard family reunions. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 1-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 4 p.m. with visitation two hours prior from 2-4 p.m. also at the funeral home. Cremation will follow and a Celebration of Life/Memorial Service is also being planned for Spring 2024. A live stream of Dancer’s funeral service will be available on his obituary at www.pinningtonfh.com
