Catherine M. Steele

Catherine Maxine Steele, 94, of Kendallville, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 at her home. Catherine was born April 23, 1928 in Salina, Kansas, a daughter of the late George Edward Lewis and Vena Frances Ellis. Catherine worked as a phone operator until marriage, when she took on her most beloved role as a loving and supportive wife and mother. She enjoyed swimming, water aerobics, birds, gardening and socializing with her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Daniel Crim of Kendallville, and Lisa and Brad Kitchen of Mount Airy, Maryland; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Howard Steele; parents, George Edward Lewis Ellis and Vena Frances Ellis; brothers, Carl Ellis and Edwin Ellis; and sister, Jo Ann Ellis. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, with visitation two hours prior from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Rev. Andy Grimes will be officiating. Memorial donations may be made to DeKalb Humane Society or Parkview Hospice.
