Alverta I. Sprague, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Auburn Village and Rehabilitation.
Born on November 15, 1929, in Mongo, she was a graduate of Orland High School. She built a successful career, working for over 30 years at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company and later at UCOM Inc. in Orland.
Alverta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She was a longtime member of the former Indian Village Church of God, where she volunteered at the church food bank. Her spirit of service extended to the community through her volunteer work at DeKalb Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Dave Cox of Fremont; her daughter-in-law, Rita Sprague of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeffrey) VanderWeele of Fort Wayne and Heather (Richard) Dawson of Martinsville; great-grandchildren, Caleb (Ashley) Smith, Gage (Olivia Morken) Hatton, Daytona (Taylor Hammond) Hatton, Madelyn Dawson, Carter Dawson, and Owen VanderWeele; and two great-great-grandchildren, Olive Smith and Finn Hammond.
Alverta was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Sprague; her son, Michael Sprague; her parents, Sarah Churgo and Harold Ransbottom; her grandson, Jeramy Hatton; great-grandson, Jared Hatton and two additional great-grandchildren; her brothers, Larry, Sherman, Harold Jr., and Gene Ransbottom; and her sister, Ella Tyler.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services, 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. A funeral service will follow on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Rev. Andy Grimes will officiate. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
