Dorothy Keller-Bonecutter

Dorothy E. Keller-Bonecutter,  94,, Auburn, Indiana, died May 12, 2017, at DeKalb Health in Auburn. She was born in Wayne Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, on July 23, 1922, the daughter of Homer Glenn and Maude Watson Rough.

She married Armour J. Keller, August 30, 1946, at Deckard Evangelical United Brethren Church near Cochranton, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1997. On April 16, 2003, she was remarried to Maurice C. Bonecutter in Auburn, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Cochranton High School, Cochranton, Pennsylvania; Meadville Commercial College in Meadville, Pennsylvania; Houghton College in Houghton, New York. She received a Master of Arts degree in Education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Her early employment included jobs as a secretary at Talon, Inc., Meadville, Pennsylvania; Circulation Department of the Ft. Wayne, Indiana Public Library; secretary to the pastor of Brookside Evangelical United Brethren Church, Indianapolis, Indiana; secretary to pastor husband, Armour J. Keller. She taught 21 years in elementary schools in northern Indiana, retiring in May 1984.

She was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, the DeKalb County Retired Teachers Association, the DeKalb County Historical Society, the Entre Nous Literary Club (later disbanded), the Jackson Homemakers Club, the First United Methodist Church in Auburn, Indiana, where she served in many different capacities. She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s organization where she served as an officer in conference, district, and local capacities. She was a past member of Logansport District Board of Global Ministries and Northern Indiana Conference Board of Global Ministries. She also served on the Indiana CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Program) Committee. She was a volunteer at the Dekalb Memorial Hospital and was a volunteer driver for the Northeastern Center Mental Health (NEC) organization of Kendallville, Indiana.

Surviving is her husband, Maurice C. Bonecutter. Survivors also include four daughters: Dianna Gibson and spouse Thomas III of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Angela Hose and spouse Galen of Auburn, Indiana; Christina Keller of Redwood City, California; Veredith Keller of Manchester, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are three stepchildren: Jess Bonecutter and spouse Nancy of Auburn, Indiana; Diane Brewer and spouse Ronald of Midland, Texas; Debra Woodring and spouse Kent of Pueblo West, Colorado; seven stepgrandchildren and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Dale Rough and spouse Pauline of Sebring, Ohio; R. John Rough and spouse, Berdena, of Clymer, New York; and a sister, Doris Hines and spouse, Ralph, of Cochranton, PA; and Mary Rough, spouse of brother Floyd Rough of Merced, CA. 

Preceding her in death are parents Homer and Maude Rough; brother Gaylord E. Rough and his spouse, Elzada Rough; and brother Floyd Rough.

Calling hours are from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services, 502 N. Main Street, Auburn, Indiana.  Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Auburn First United Methodist Church, 1203 East 7th Street, Auburn.  Rev. Jim Farrer  will be officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Auburn.
