Daniel J. Watts, 67, of Saint Joe, died peacefully Sunday September 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Dan was born in Portland, IN on October 14, 1950, a son of the late Raymond H. and Ella J. (Arnold) Watts of New Haven. Dan was a 1968 graduate of New Haven High School. He married Deborah A. Peterson from Bradford, PA on August 30, 1972. Dan was a member of Saint Joe Church of Christ in Saint Joe, IN, and Sons of the American Legion Post 202 in Butler. Dan worked for International Harvester for 12 years then Nucor Corp as a mechanic for 13 years and then retired from Steel Dynamics in January of 2016 after 18 years. Dan loved working on anything that had a motor and was always outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and riding ATV’s with his grandchildren. Dan was bigger than life in so many ways. Generous, helpful, loving, and could do or make anything. Just give him and idea and he could make it work. His daughters called him their hero. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Watts of Saint Joe; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela M. and Dennis Akey of Grabill and Amanda L. and Nicholas Helbert of Auburn. Grandchildren, Trey Akey, Dannon Akey, Liam Marzolf, Ella Marzolf, Sydney Helbert and Sadie Helbert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Pat Watts of New Haven and David and Vickie Watts of Pleasant Lake. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Marie Watts. A funeral service will be held Saturday 11 am with visitation one hour prior at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Rev. Donny Goff will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
