Wilma F. Sowder

Wilma F. Sowder, 94, of Auburn, died Sunday January 29, 2017 at her home. She was born January 27, 1923 in Batesville, IN, the daughter of the late Elza W. & Myrtle (Hafner) Sowder. Her mother died in 1930 and Wilma went to live with her maternal grandparents. Her father remarried and then passed away in 1973. Wilma had four siblings and two half siblings. She was institutionalized at the age of 10 thru court commitment on November 28, 1933 to the Fort Wayne State Development Center. On August 29, 1940, Wilma went to live at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She visited Glen Oaks Nursing Home in Auburn on March 12, 1981 and she returned to FWSDC five days later. She then moved to the Village Nursing Home from April 1, 1988 to May 20, 1988, then returned to FWSDC. On July 30, 1990 she went to Oak Meadows Learning Center and then on August 28, 2003, she moved to her home in Auburn. Memorial gathering will be held Saturday February 11, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at 2108 Lorraine Drive, Auburn.
