Imogene Mavis

Imogene Mavis, 91, of Auburn, died Thursday July 28, 2016 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn, Imogene was born August 8, 1924 in Hicksville, OH, the daughter of the late Quentin K. and Gladys F. Mavis. Imogene was a graduate of Auburn High School and then attended and graduated from Manchester College with a teaching degree. She started teaching music in the Akron Indiana School District and then moved to Waterloo High School which later became DeKalb High School. She retired from the DeKalb High School Music Department.  She was a member of Auburn First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, DeKalb County Chapter Retired Teachers Association, Auburn Arts Commission, Women Band Directors National Association, Director of DeKalb County Home Extension Chorus for over 30 years, named DeKalb County Council on Aging 1994 Woman of the year, DeKalb Health Auxiliary and was instrumental in starting the Curiosity Shop. Her home was a featured garden on the 2002 garden walk. She is survived by a cousin, Betty Bevington of Saint Joe; and by extended family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and lifelong best friend Mable F. Bevington. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday with visitation one hour prior at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Wilbur Yates will be officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Auburn First United Methodist Church, DeKalb Health Auxiliary or DeKalb Humane Society. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
