Gregory James Kever

While the days of Gregory J. Kever were cut much too short, he made a significant impact in the lives of everyone he met. He was easygoing and kind toward others with a zest for life that was contagious to all who were near. Gregory was a beloved son and brother who treasured every moment he had to spend with his friends and loves ones. He had an amazing sense of humor and a special laughter that was all his own, always making the world around him a fun place to be. Life will never be the same without Gregory here, but he leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that his loved ones will forever hold near and dear to their hearts.

The 1990s were a decade of great transformation as technology was rapidly changing the way we lived our daily lives. It was in 1992 that we were introduced to the World Wide Web, and with that the way we communicated, the way we shopped, and the way we kept in touch with the world around us was never the same. Amidst this exciting time was a time of great anticipation in the lives of Dawn Brannan and Gregory T. Kever as they were awaiting the birth of their new baby as April dawned in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1991. The big day finally arrived when the baby boy they named Gregory James drew his first breath on April 23rd. Although he was born in Honolulu, he later moved to Upstate New York, Yuma, Arizona, International Falls, Minnesota, Artesia, New Mexico, Auburn, Indiana, and Gillette, Wyoming. Moving was necessary in their family since Gregory’s father was in the Army as Senior Legal Counsel while his mother worked in border patrol. He was joined in his family by his sister, Danielle, and half-sisters, Shubitha and Natasha, and half-brother, Mathew and  later step-brothers, Nathan, and Andrew.

Right from the start Gregory was such a character, often wearing a monkey shirt around. He was a thumbsucker when he was very young, and his favorite thing to do was to wrap his sister’s hair around his thumb before sucking it. A typical brother, Gregory wasn’t always so nice where his sister was concerned as he once bit her on the back and wouldn’t let go! He also enjoyed the comfort of his mother by lifting up his shirt to feel his skin against the bare skin of her legs when she was wearing shorts. It was something to remember when Gregory put a heater too close to a trash can in his room, almost burning his entire house down! Priceless memories were made when his father took him to the rodeo, and during a break Gregory was chosen to go into the ring to play with the rodeo clowns. Denise taught him how to drive, and he got a huge reality check when he took a curve way too fast. Needless to say, he didn’t do that again. He and his sister were a great pair, however, and when he was 12 he was in her wedding. In 2004, Gregory’s mother took him back to Hawaii where he was able to visit the hospital where he was born.

Throughout his life Gregory was almost always busy doing something. He attended local schools including Artesia High School in Artesia, New Mexico. Gregory was a swimmer and also on the track team while in high school. Hardworking and determined, his “never quit attitude” surfaced again and again. Gregory was also very musically talented and played several instruments. After graduating from high school, he went on to Indiana University and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, Iota Lambda Chapter. Gregory earned his B.S. in accounting and then worked in the accounting department for Menards. A sports fan, Gregory loved the Green Bay Packers.

All who knew Gregory Kever would agree that he was an extraordinary man to know and love. He was respectful and hardworking with a sense of determination that was inspiring to those around him. Gregory was generous and thoughtful, the sort of person who put everyone else ahead of himself. Deeply loved, he will be forever missed.

Gregory’s family includes his mother, Dawn Brannan of International Falls, MN; father and step mother, Gregory T. and Denise Kever of Garrett; grandmother, Kathleen Brannan of Bryan, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Danielle and Samuel Berridge of Auburn; nieces and nephews, Nathaniel, Noah, Milo, Nixie, Luke, Aiden, Olivia, and Brianna; step-sisters and husband, Shubitha and Jeremy Workman of Fort Wayne, and Natasha Kever of Columbus, IN; step-brothers, Mathew (Amanda Harvey) O’Blenis of Auburn, Nathan Kleeman of Auburn and Andrew Kleeman of Auburn; aunts and uncles, James and Betty Brannan Jr. of Huntingburg, IN, Denny and Velvet Kever of Leo, Diane and Greg Galligher of Monroeville, Beth and Bill Head of Montpelier, OH, and Kenneth Hohler of Tucson, AZ; step uncle and aunt, Denny and Karen Miller of Angola. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Pinnington Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Rev. Dr. Marcus Carlson will be officiating. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn. Memorial donations may be made to Pets for Vets Central Indiana Chapter.
